PCI Builders Inc. spoke with the Town of Kernersville Mayor and the Board of Alderman at their monthly meeting on June 30, 2009, about taking preliminary steps toward “Green” building initiatives in Kernersville. Our final meeting with the Town was on October 6, 2009, at which time, our proposal was unanimously approved. By using one of the green rating systems; Energy Star, Certified Green Building, and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), builders and homeowners will get a 25% rebate from the building permit fees for each rating system used, not to exceed $500.00. We feel confident that these initial incentives will encourage traditional builders and homeowners to see the importance of building more sustainable and “smarter” homes. We would like to say thank you to the Town of Kernersville for having the vision to see the importance of this program given the current economic conditions. We look forward to more successful projects with the Town.
